Then after two hours of laying around, I decided I needed to actually get up and not be a complete lazy butt and get my run in. I headed to my usual spot not feeling too good about it. For some reason my stomach was turning. My money's on the fact that I didn't eat as good as I could have yesterday, but it still didn't stop my tummy from hurting.
I did my normal .75 mile warm up walk in 11 minutes, so I improved today, then told myself I'd do 3 minutes running and 1 minute walking since I was having GI issues. I ran, and I ran, and I ran. Keep in mind I was still moving like the turtle I am and the bikers passing me would probably tell me it was a job, but I was running. I felt sooooo good and once I looked down and saw that I had gone more than 2.5 miles, I knew I couldn't stop.
I have not ran 3 miles consecutively since my April half marathon. Although I do walk/run everyday, it is more of walking and not running. I'm slowly working my way up to where I can actually run an entire marathon and not worry about my time. After running the entire way back to my car, I looked at my watch to see that I had ran 4 miles even without stopping. Go. Freaking. Me. Yeah!
4 straight miles equals one happy girl.
At about mile 3, my GI issues hit me pretty hard and I was contemplating stopping, but pressed on. Although I know it was the way I fueled yesterday, the hot sun didn't help either. I should have gone this morning when I woke up early since it NEVER happens. I guess if you snooze, you do lose. But the sun gave me this awesome booby sweat!
Sweat-tastic!
All this leads me to an even bigger question. What is your definition of running? I am more of a run/walker yet I still sometimes beat people who run the whole entire time. Is it more of an accomplishment to run an ENTIRE marathon and do it slow, or run/walk the whole thing and have a really good clock time? I don't think there really is an answer. I'd be happy with ever getting a sub 4 hour marathon, but I'd also be super happy if I ran an entire marathon. Your thoughts on this?
Note to self: Chocolate milk is the best thing ever after a good run!
Happy hump day!
Yay booby sweat! And woohoo, rock on! Great job on that run. SO proud of you!
ReplyDeleteYou know my thoughts on running. Just do it. Make no excuses. That's all I have to say. :)
I still cannot do chocolate milk. I can't do milk at all unless it's in ice cream or a milk shake or wait, coffee. The only one of those 3 I could even stomach post run is the coffee but who wants that when it's a bazillion degrees outside!?
Love you, miss you!
Way to go!! Rock that sweat! You earned it! haha
ReplyDeleteI think that anyway that gets your from point A to B and provides you with a good workout is how accomplishments should be measured!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I need to get me some chocolate milk for my post runs. I love that stuff!!
ReplyDeleteWaHOO!!!! Congrats on such an AWESOME run!! You are Ah-Ma-Zing!! So proud of you.
My thoughts on marathon running? I say that if you get to a point where you can actually sign up, be part of a marathon and actually FINISH, then you are a HERO and a ROCKSTAR in my book! It doesn't matter if you run the whole thing or run/walk. You are doing it and that is what counts! Someday I hope to get there with ya!
Have a great day!
so true about the chocolate milk!!! YUM! i am So pumped for your run! you totally rocked it and pushed through the GI stuff...awesome!
ReplyDeletewith the running the whole thing vs the run/walk...i think it is totally a preference. for me...once I walk I have no motivation to keep going. in the summer I do walk through water stations and also in longer races I do as well. on training runs I stop to eat my GU and take a water break but for the most part I try to stay steady...but I honestly think you can be "fast" at either...its just which ever works best for you!
